Peoria Sweeps Grand Rapids  - 3/25/08

Friday Peoria started the scoring and never looked by as they won 10-0 over a struggling Owls team. Chris Hausel notched the shutout in goal for the Mustangs. John Affolter started getting back on the offensive track as he scored the first goal for the Mustangs with an assist from Joshua Kaebel. Budzyn scored the next goal as Jake Linhart set him up with the perfect scoring chance. Sean McGaughy scored the loan powerplay goal in the game as Hagaman and Sundstrom set him up. Alec Hagaman answered right back with less than 3 minutes to go in the first period as Sundstrom set up the pass. Sonny Galati would close out the period with scoring as Holzworth and Ketts were credited with the assists. Peoria continued the scoring in the final two periods as Hagaman would finish off his play maker as well as Affolter and McGaughy would get another goal. Zack Ummel went with Owls captain Adam Hull early on the first period coming back to win the fight. John Scheiter and John Brooks went at it after Scheiter was hit and slashed. Scheiter through several punches in this draw with Brooks. Justin Blum finally had his first fight with the Mustangs as he squared off with Brook late in the 3rd as he won his fight hands down as he through at least eight good upper-cuts.

Saturday night Peoria started off rather slow from the night before But Cody Holzworth and Sean McGaughy would both score in the first period on unassisted goals. The 2nd period several goals were scored Peoria gave up two goals one being a 5-3 powerplay goal for the Owls. But the Mustangs moved into first gear as they would score seven goals in the period. Affolter had another two goal game as Litvinoff would score two goals in the games as well. Cody Holzworth continued his scoring in the game and finished off his had trick in the 3rd period. Mike Fleming had two goals in the for the Mustangs as well. Chris Prewitt scored his first goal on the year in the 3rd period. Peoria wins the game 14-3 and moved into 4th place. Peoria has 9 games left in the year. Peoria travels to Michigan, Metro and Flint for the final road trip of the regular season as they fight to move towards the top. After the final road swing Peoria closes the season with 6 HOME games at Owens Center. Listen to the games online as Mr. McGaughy gives the play-by-play.
